What We Think of the Serta 0917 Microfleece and Sherpa Throw

The Serta 0917 Microfleece and Sherpa heated blanket is reversible so you can choose which side you want against your body. Either way, you’re guaranteed to be super comfortable under this cushy blanket. Thanks to the 8.5ft long power cord, you can curl up under your new favourite blanket on the couch, in bed, or at the kitchen table if you really wanted to.

The Serta blanket has 5 easily interchangeable settings so that you can customize the blanket to your body temperature and your environment for maximum comfort and warmth. The controls are 3 ft down the power cord so you won’t sit or lay down on it during use, but its still easily accessible for temperature adjustment.

I love how many heat options this blanket has! My last heated blanket only had three, so I’m definitely using the extra to my advantage. My kids and cats love the lower settings and I take advantage of here higher settings during winter and when I’m sick. It is SO soft and the temperature control is super simple, nothing complicated about this blanket. Highly recommended.

Renee L.

The blanket is quick to heat up once plugged in, even to the highest setting. We recommend slowly moving up the scale for your first use since this blanket gets surprisingly hot at the 5th setting and you’ll want to make sure it’s a comfortable temperature for you. You can choose between 6 pleasing colours to match your bed spread or colour scheme. This blanket is also machine washable, and the instructions for washing are clearly written on the blanket for total convenience.

This blanket does have an automatic shutoff after 4 hours so you’re safe if you succumb to the warmth and sheer coziness and forget to turn it off before falling asleep.

Soft Heat Luxury Heated Blanket Video Review

What We Think of the Soft Heat Luxury Heated Blanket

The soft heat luxury heated blanket is made of a super soft microfleece fabric that keeps you cozy in bed or on the couch. The softness isn’t broken up by clunky wires – this blanket has significantly smaller wires than a lot of other heated blankets out there which makes it smooth and unnoticeable. This blanket is also special for another reason: the wires are spaced 3” apart rather than 5” for better heat distribution and whole-blanket coverage.

This soft heat heated blanket is available in 5 colour options and in all bed sizes.  This blanket also come with a super simple temperature control dial with 10 heat setting. Better yet, there are two controls in the larger queen and king-sized blankets so that you and your partner can each have a unique heat setting for sleep.

The Soft Heat blanket is perfect for me and my wife. She likes things much warmer than me so it’s a blessing to have two separate controllers so we’re both happy with the temperature. We use it every night going to sleep since we like to save power and don’t heat our house too high in the winter. We couldn’t be happier with this soft and easy to use heated blanket. We definitely recommend this blanket.

Kevin K.

This luxury heated blanket is machine washable for simplified maintenance and a high convenience factor. This model also comes with a 10-hour auto-shutoff setting just in case you fall asleep while the unit is on, or you forget to turn it off after use. You’ll also be able to enjoy a preheat and hold function which means the blanket will heat up to your desired setting before bed so it’ll be toasty warm when you’re ready for it rather than having to wait for the blanket to heat up.

Sunbeam Fleece Throw Video Review

What We Think of the Sunbeam Fleece Throw

The sunbeam heated fleece throw is the best choice for people on a budget, but it still has some pretty solid features that make it worthy of our list. It is SO soft. This blanket is by far the softest heated blanket on our list and you’ll want to snuggle with it all day long.

This blanket only has 3 heat settings, but if you’re a pretty simple sleeper, you’ll probably use the same setting all the time anyway. This blanket uses ThermoFine technology that gives it excellent heating abilities in a short time frame, making it a solid choice for people who don’t want o wait forever for the blanket to warm up.

The Sunbeam heated throw blanket is so worth the money. I use it every night on the couch to read and it is perfect for me. I only ever use the middle heat setting, so I don’t mind the lack of choice at all. More than 3 would seem like a waste. I love how easy it is to wash and it is so simple to use, just a few buttons and an attractive control.

Shelly Y.

The 3-hour shutoff is ideal for energy efficiency since it won’t run all night long after you fall asleep, and it’ll shut off quickly enough that you won’t wake up in a sweat. This blanket is easily machine washable and is dryer safe too, so cleaning this blanket is a piece of cake. It is a bit smaller than other blankets so it is best suited for individuals in bed or for couch use.

This blanket could have a longer cord for better convenience and versatility, but the price does make the lack of features more easily accepted.

What We Think of the MaxKare Polar Fleece

The MaxKare Polar Fleece heated blanket is a great alternative for people wanting a large heated blanket at a reasonable price. It is only available in red which is a bit disappointing, everyone loves choice, but the rest of the features make us happy. The blanket is lightweight and easily manoeuvrable so you can easily get up in the morning and move to curl up on the couch without having to unwrap yourself from the warmth.

The blanket is quite large and will fit a king bed, so whether you like to share or become a burrito, this blanket will meet your needs. The blanket is also machine washable so you’ll never be parted from it for too long if you’re clumsy and spill something on it. The blanket is exceptionally durable thanks to high-strength stitching and can be used regularly without obtaining damage.

This blanket is fantastic. The simple temperature control is really easy to use even when fumbling in the dark. It is machine washable which makes my life a whole lot easier and its 4 levels of heat are enough for me, I didn’t see the point in getting a blanket with a few extra settings. Warm is warm to me! This blanket heats up quickly and is really quite comfortable.

What We Think of the o1home Heated Blanket

This heated blanket is one of the softest on the market with Shu velveteen on one side and fluffy flannel on the other. It is the epitome of comfort even without the heated aspect. This large throw blanket is machine washable and has 3 temperature settings to choose from. The temperature control is very easy to use, just one button, but it may get annoying if you’re on high and want to go to medium. You’ll have to go through off and low before getting to your choice, rather than simple rotating a dial.

The blanket also comes with a 4-hour auto shutoff feature to protect you from overheating or racking up a large energy bill. The blanket also features an extra long power cord at 7 ft so it is incredibly versatile and maneuverable to any area of your home. You won’t have to make any sacrifices due to a lack of convenient outlets.

I don’t know if I’ve ever gotten a better present for my wife. She absolutely loves how soft and cozy this blanket is. She’s almost always cold and uses this throughout the day and always at night before bed. The control works with just one button and its machine washable which was a necessity for us.

Greg H.

The controller cord on this blanket is separate to the power cord so that it stays near you at all times. This blanket is lightweight and affordable, making it a great choice for a variety of purposes. The wiring in the blanket isn’t very noticeable thanks to the satisfying thickness of the blanket itself, so you don’t have to worry about annoying texture during use.

Sunbeam Quilted Fleece Video Review

What We Think of the Sunbeam Quilted Fleece

The Sunbeam quilted fleece heated blanket is 100% polyester for a silky texture and appearance. It easily fits in with your load of laundry and Is also dryer safe, no frustrating cleaning methods required for this blanket. The blanket has 10 different heat settings and uses a twist dal control system for easy adjustments. This blanket has a 5-year warranty so you’ll be able to enjoy it for many years worry-free.

The blanket is extremely thin which means that it is lightweight and easily stored away, but it also means that the wires are very easy to feel considering they are pretty bulky. This blanket comes in a variety of sizes and heats up reasonably quickly, even to the higher settings.

I am in love with my quilted heated blanket by Sunbeam. It is thin and lightweight which is what I wanted. I enjoy the large range of heat settings and the auto-shutoff doesn’t interfere with movie marathons or overnight use like some others I considered. Very happy I chose this blanket.

Jerry O.

This blanket also uses ThermoFine technology, which means it adjusts to your body temperature and room temperature to deliver a consistent heat as the temperatures fluctuate. This feature prevents you from overheating or becoming cold while you sleep, and is a pretty enjoyable system to have. The wires in this blanket are not as far apart as some other blankets, but they aren’t as close as they could be, so you may notice a cold spot here and there.

What We Think of the Sunbeam Microplush ComfortTech

The Sunbeam Microplush heated blanket is machine washable and dryer safe. The blanket is made of polyester microplush that makes it incredibly soft and silky to the touch. The heating wires are close together for an optimal level of heat distribution and coverage to combat the usual cold spots that result rom widely-spaced wires.

This blanket has a preheat function that will warm up your sheets for you before you get in bed, and it comes with a 10-hour auto shutoff function that won’t interrupt a long snuggle but will protect against the blanket being accidentally left on all day.

We just moved to Wisconsin and are very unaccustomed to the cold, so we got heated blankets for our bed as well as our two kids. They’ve been excellent so far; they warm up quickly and are easy to use so our kids can use them on their own no problem (they’re 9 and 10). The Ultra Soft rating is accurate, we can’t get enough!

Mary C.

This blanket uses Sunbeam’s ThermoFine technology to constantly monitor the room temperature as well as your body temperature so that it can correct itself to maintain an even and consistent temperature at your desired setting. The blanket has 10 heat settings to allow for enhanced customization no matter how cold your house gets.

The larger king and queen sizes come equipped with dual control technology, meaning that the blanket is split in half to afford personalized experiences when shared between two people. The control is also unique in that is uses an LCD display and uses up-and-down buttons rather than a dial for adjustments. The only downsides to this blanket are the limited colour options and extravagant price tag.

In the end, the products we recommend are those we would have wanted to buy, or those we will choose for our friends and family.

Things to Know Before Buying an Electric Heated Blanket

Is an Electric Blanket Safe?

For most users, yes heated blankets are perfectly safe. Thanks to auto shutoff’s in most blankets, you can even fall asleep with it on and not worry for your safety. However, there are a few groups who are not recommended users of heated blankets.

For example, pregnant women, young children, adults with dementia or other mental disabilities, as well as some people with diabetes with reduced sensitivity int heir limbs are all groups of people who should avoid heated blankets.

Heated blankets are also not typically recommended for pets, unless they curl up under the blanket with you. They should never be left alone with an operating heated blanket, and should not be allowed to lie on top of the blanket during use as this will trap heat and they might get burned.

How Do I Care For my Heated Blanket?

Caring for your heated blanket properly is essential for extending its life and keeping it in optimal working conditions. Every blanket will come with specific care instructions to help you maintain the good condition of your blanket, but there are a few essentials to know beforehand.

Never bunch up or fold your heated blanket during use as it will cause hot spots and become a safety risk. Even when off, you shouldn’t bunch up the blanket or fold it too small as this may damage the heating wires inside.

You also shouldn’t ever lay on top of the blanket. It is best used as a top layer since anything on top of the blanket will trap heat and can put you at risk of burns or fires from overheating.

Finally, make sure to turn off and unplug your blanket after use and store it properly to avoid damage or shortening of its lifespan.

How Do I Clean my Heated Blanket?

Not all heated blankets are machine washable, but the majority are. Make sure to carefully read the washing instructions on your blanket. A good rule of thumb for machine-washable heated blankets is to use the gentle wash setting and a low-heat dry cycle. Spot washing your blanket is also an option for non-machine-washable blankets, though make sure it is completely dry before use.

When is a Heated Blanket Unsafe to Use?

A heated blanket can last for several years when taken care of properly, but eventually it will need o be replaced when it becomes unsafe for further use. If you notice brown spots on your blanket, the heating wires have begun to burn your blanket and it is no longer fit for use. Frayed cords or wires are also a fire hazard, so if your cord or blanket becomes damaged it will be unsafe and shouldn’t be used.

How to Properly Choose Your Electric Heated Blanket

  • Fabric Type.

Heated blankets can be made from a variety of fabric types including fleece, cotton, and polyester. The softness and feel of the blanket will vary greatly between different fabrics, and will affect your sleep. It’s important that the blanket feels comfortable and cozy and has the right level of softness for your tastes.

  • Thickness.

The thickness of the heated blanket often affects how much you feel the wires through the blanket. The wires are typically hard, so it might ruin the experience for you if you can feel them against your skin. A thicker blanket will probably hide the wires much better, but there will also be a greater barrier between you and the heat. It is an important balance to consider when judging which blanket will be right for you.

  • Temperature Settings.

The temperature settings of your heated blanket is most likely the most important factor when choosing a blanket. The more temperature settings there are, the better, usually. Some nights are colder than others and you’ll want to be able to easily adjust how warm your blanket is, even when sharing versus using it alone. However, some blankets can take up to an hour or more to heat up fully, so you’ll want to be sure your blanket will suit your patience level as well since some blankets can heat up within minutes.

  • Machine Washable.

Choosing a blanket that is machine washable is in your best interest. Having to professionally launder your heated blanket, especially if you have accident-prone children, pets, or you’re just that clumsy yourself, will be a pain. With a machine washable blanket, the controls simply detach and you can machine wash it the way you do every other blanket, saving you time and hassle that you don’t need.

  • Budget.

Of course, your budget will make a difference in most of the already mentioned factors. Heated blankets can range hundreds of dollars between the economy and luxury options, so determining your budget is a great way of narrowing down your choices and finding a blanket that meets all of your needs but doesn’t break the bank.

  • Auto Shutoff.

As with anything electric, safety is an important feature to watch out for. Many heated blankets come with an auto shutoff time, which is important to have in case you fall asleep while using it or accidently leave it on. An auto shutoff also helps with efficiency costs since the blanket won’t continue using electricity past a certain point. The auto-shutoff can range from 2-12 hours, so make sure the timing of the auto-shutoff will work for you rather than become an annoyance if it shuts off too soon, or a hazard if it takes too long to shut off on its own.

  • Controls.

The controls used for the heat settings on your blanket is a minor factor, but can cause some severe annoyance if not designed well. Some controls are plastic while some blankets have an LCD display that makes adjustments in the dark easy. The location of the controls in the blanket is also important to factor in. If the control is at an end of the blanket, you may have to chose between getting your feet tangled in it of having it close to your face. Some blankets also have a separate location for the temperature controls, or it is attached directly to the power cord, which can be a more convenient option as it is usually a couple of feet away from the blanket to prevent users from rolling on it in their sleep.

  • Size.

Heated blankets vary in size just like regular blankets, so choosing one that’s big enough is crucial. Some people want a blanket that will fit their queen bed while others simply want a smaller throw blanket to use on the couch. If you plan on sharing the blanket with a partner, you’ll need a queen size or larger even on the couch. Larger blankets also usually come with two controls, so if you’re shopping for a blanket to be shared with your spouse, dual controls are important to keep in mind so you can each have your own setting to match your sleeping preferences.

  • Voltage.

All heated blankets are designed with safety in mind, but low-voltage blankets are even safer than their regular-voltage counterparts. However, low-voltage blankets will usually take longer to heat up, or won’t reach the same high heat that higher voltage blankets are capable of. Normal heated blankets will also be a bigger drain on your electric bill than a low-voltage blanket, so that’s something to keep in mind as well. There are pros and cons to both, so your personal preferences will make the decision here.

  • Warranty.

Most heated blankets come with a warranty that will allow you to return a broken product for a refund. The longer the warranty period, the more protected your purchase is, and the more confidence you can have that your product will last for several years.
